An Exempted Micro Enterprise (EME) is a business with an annual turnover of R10 million or less.
What are the B-BBEE requirements for EMEs?
EMEs are automatically deemed compliant and do not require formal verification unless they are applying for contracts or tenders that require a verified certificate.
- 51% or more Black ownership: Automatically qualify for Level 2
- 100% Black ownership: Automatically qualify for Level 1
- Less than 51% Black ownership: Qualify for Level 4
What documentation is required?
To confirm your EME status, you need to complete and sign an EME Affidavit or get an accountant’s confirmation letter, which includes:
- Company registration details
- Annual turnover confirmation
- Percentage of Black ownership
- Shareholder/member information
